Many of the ideas for this book come from my work advising international tourists at Faneuil Hall in Boston, where I volunteer with the National Park Service. These ideas includes the auto-translation features which allows the reader to translate the book into French, Italian, Chinese and other languages. We get a lot of non-English speaking visitors and it is frustrating not to be able to help as much as I would like.Auto-translation does require web access, so if you don't have an unlimited data plan, you may want to wait until you have free wifi, but it works well, is fast, and the website has been optimized for mobile devices.I've tried to incorporate as many features of the ebook into the print version as possible, and have embedded QR codes to automate functions. I would love to get feedback and understand if this works for you and what you would like to see improved.Enjoy your visit. I will be visiting Boston for the first time. I researched a number of guides and maps etc. and the Freedom Trail Boston by Steve Gladstone is the most thorough of all of them. I chose the Kindle version because it was convenient and very affordable. It is loaded with extra information and tips on things to do and see, where to eat, getting around Boston, and also some excellent budget suggestions. He also gives you links to his online resources which include an app for your phone and downloadable maps. There is a section describing some of the different walking tours available, both free and paid tours. It even includes sample itineraries with alternatives for 1/2 day and full day self-guided visits. The Kindle version can link you to an optional pre-translated version via Google-translate for a number of different languages. There is also a print version available, and he even includes a discount link for that. This guide is incredibly well done and brings history to life.
I have done the Freedom Trail many times over the last 40 years but went back to visit with my 11 year old. Found this book and accompanying smartphone APP extremely helpful, we read all the historical write-ups. The content was short enough to read at every stop but still very informative. With this book and APP there was no need to be on a formal tour.
Well-written and superb for all the background information it provides. However, a bit of advice: the Freedom Trail runs through busy Boston streets, so following the marked path is nearly impossible. Buy this book because it's excellent--but then do as I did: pay $15 to hire a live tour guide who will guide you through and share some mighty interesting stories about each stop on the Trail. This book is a great read before/after the tour.

Difficult to read. The book is only in black and white and very small print. The pdf that comes with it is in color. I left it in the hotel room for the next person and bought another book at the National Parks bookstore in Faneuil Hall.
Easy to follow with enough information to whet one's appetite for historical adventure yet not heavily cumbersome. A great prelude to a weekend get-away in Boston to help add depth to the Liberty Trail walking tour whether taken on your own or with a tour guide.
this is a great book if you want some easy to read in laymans terms of the freedom trail. I am a tour guide and always have it with me when on tour
If you are interested in the freedom trail, this is the book to use. Lots of interesting facts in an easily understandable language. The pictures are black and white, but as a travel guide, this is just what you need.
