I bought this for my daughter for Christmas but ended up giving it to her day-before-yesterday, in the lead-up to the 50th Anniversary show. She was so thrilled!Already, she has spent hours with this book, and it's a treasure I know she'll love in the years to come.A lot of time and attention clearly went into the design and production of this book. The pictures are beautiful. Rich colors, great choices. The layout is very nice. The paper quality is great.One caution: If you're looking for a lot of text, you may want to consider a different book. The focus here is on the images, which are accompanied by brief descriptions and lots of short-paragraph text blocks. It's only 208 pages, so there's not much writing here. This book won't give a new Who fan any depth of understanding.What this book does offer is a very nicely presented overview of the series. Longtime fans will love being reminded of their favorites. Those who don't know Doctor Who just might find themselves intrigued enough to go get hooked.

We all know "that" guy ; the super fan that knows everything about what ever the topic is , in this case DoctorWho , and acts like it is all that matters , and even talks down to any other fan that doesnt know as much as they do about the subject ..........ironically they dont usually dont know anything about anything else BUT Doctor Who .This is NOT the book for "that" guy , its "the" book for the rest of us who LOVE doctor who , but have lives and realize there is a world beyond a sci fi TV show .First what the book is NOT : the go to encyclopedia of DrWho , listing every character and tool and species , etc ........ of the series . It does NOT give you a super indepth discription of every episode . It does NOT talk over your head , or expect you to be "that " guy to understand the material inside . This book does NOT cover all the "making of" , or behind the scenes drama that went into the shows , if you are looking for that , you can find several other books , which usually appeal to "that" guy .What the book IS : Each doctor is covered in their own section . each section covers just one doctor , with a brief 2 paragraph introduction about who the doctor "is" , how he compares to the last one , and a briefe paragraph or 2 about the actor who was chosen . Next , each section lists all the episodes that doctor stared in durring his tenure in the part . This is followed by a brief listing of some of the more important episodes that doctor was in with a paragraph or 2 about them . Next is a list of the companions for that doctor along with a brief blurb about the character and when they came in and left the doctors company . After that is a listing of the more important enemies/threats that doctor faced durring his run . This is followed by a brief talk about how that particular doctor viewed/used technology , which is much more interesting than it sounds . Lastly , there is a page dealing with the doctors demise and regeneration . some of the above enteries will have tiny little tidbits of trivia about the behind the scenes type stuff , and ALL of it is accompanied by LOTS of GREAT still photographs from the episodes them selves .i was originally apprehensive when I was considering ordering it because it is a new book , and its seems like most of the new books being done on DoctorWho are being dumbed down for kids . I was TOTALLY surprised when i read this one , because its just written for the average fan of the show , regardless of age .you dont NEED this book to enjoy the show , but if you are a fan of the show , it gives you something extra to think about while watching your favorite episodes .The only thing missing from this book was that it ONLY dealt with the TV Doctors , NOT the cinema movies , which i understand why they would leave it out , but it is something i would have expected to see based on the publishers description .let me close with saying this is probably the best DW book i have ever bought , because its just so much fun to flip through and read !

I bought 2 of these guides, one for my Whovian hubby and the other for his Whovian best friend! As I am also a Whovian, with Dr. #10 being my favorite ~ David Tennant, I was compelled to look at the book before wrapping them for Christmas! You do receive color photos of all of the characters, where applicable. It shows every doctor through Doctor #11, Matt Smith. It goes through each doctor, his companions, and his foes. In the beginning of each chapter, where the new doctor has regenerated, it goes through a tiny bio of that actor's personal life; describes a bit about his doctor's character and any costume and personality changes. There is a "Through the Vortex" section, describing each season of that particular doctor. This really is a guide. Enjoy!

The book is chronological from Hartnell to Smith so it reads as a type of time traveller's guide in the TARDIS, as though we were travelling with the timelord.Every Doctor Who fan is going to want this tome. Bruno is 9 years old. His father has a cool job, he's in charge of a lot of stuff. He runs a big place, with a huge wire fence, and a lot of people—men and boys—on the other side. They are skinny, they work hard, they are all very dirty, they are all wearing what looks like striped pajamas. There are soldiers in there, who poke at and laugh at the men and boys. Bruno has overheard his parents talking, and knows that his father's boss, “The Fury”, is the one who arranged for them to move to the new home. Bruno's older sister tells him that the place is called Out With.Bruno is Not Allowed to approach the camp, or the fence. But, since he plans on becoming an explorer when he grows up, he decides to Go Exploring (wearing an old overcoat and boots, such as an explorer might wear). And on the other side of the fence he sees a speck. A dot. At tiny thing that, as he gets closer, reveals itself to be a boy. Just another boy, perhaps a boy for Bruno to play with.This book is startling, horrifying, and yet the story is told in a charming way. Bruno and his friendship with Shmuel through the fence is just the story of two boys, but also a story of a Jewish Concentration Camp, told through the unaware eyes of the son of the man in charge of the camp. Bruno's naivete brings the humanity into the story, and makes it unique. Just a wonderful, scary, suspenseful and at the same time heartrending—story, leading up to a beautifully written climax.

I did not like this book as much as I thought I would. Maybe because this story is told from an oblivious nine-years old boy. In terms of sympathies, abhorrence, and overall disturbing history of WWII, the author actually got the atmosphere down pat.For the most part, Bruno's voice didn't quite match his age. I have a nephew the same age: trust me, he is inquisitive. No matter the time, and how well parents shelter kids from the storm, they still know what's going on. Shmuel and Bruno being on opposite sides of the fence shouldn't have made Bruno unawares.Still, I always find some silver lining in reading historical fiction, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is not a book that I regret reading. I just wish Boyne had done a better job with Bruno's voice.

The story about the son of a Nazi commandant and an innocent Jewish boy is absolutely amazing and filled with tragedy that may cause some to tear up. It talks about both perspectives from the Nazi's and the Jews in which give us a variety of ways we can view what the book is based off of: the holocaust. The book is absolutely gut wrenching, both filled with the emotional history and the bond between the two boys.The book was published on January 5, 2006 by John Boyne and is under the historical fiction genre. Bruno, the son of the Nazi commandant and his family, moves from Berlin to a residence near a concentration camp. Bruno was sad and lonely due to his lack of friends and walked behind his house where he saw a boy on the other side of a barbed wire fence. Both confused and unaware of their situation, their unlikely bond grew strong.Bruno and Shmuel (the Jewish boy) are just as confused as any kid would be. Bruno doesn't know why the fence is there or what it symbolizes and nor does Shmuel. They are completely unaware of their surroundings which prevents one thing from getting in their way: fear. Fear causes worry, distraction, emotional pain; things those innocent Jewish prisoners had to go through in the cruel concentration camps. Because there is confusion amongst the boys, it allows the author to explain his message in simple terms so that the readers can fully understand what he's trying to say.Boyne has a rather-- interesting style of writing. His writing is very simple and easy to understand, however, he includes secret messages and hints that are hidden behind his simplified terms in which makes it very unique. His tone is very subtle yet can be an emotional explosion and because he mastered the use of how he expresses himself, he uses this to his advantage which makes his writing very captivating.Other authors who write historical fiction books, for example Markus Zusak and The Book Thief are different from Boyne’s style. Other’s consist of different perspective on narration or a frequent use of explaining things in the context of the text in which Boyne clearly points out for the readers to identify.One thing that the audience should be aware of is how much he emphasises on discrimination. No one should be ashamed of being who they are because of things like the religion they believe in or what color their skin color is. Shmuel along with the rest of the Jews were thrown into concentration camps and shamed on for being Jewish which in no way is a reason to be discriminated for. Discrimination is still a big part of society to this day and sometimes, we might not even notice that it’s happening.From reading this book, the message seems to be clear. Everyone should be treated the same, no matter how you look or what you believe in. We should be caring for each other and accepting the faiths and opinions that people follow and are a part of. It allows for more diversity amongst society and makes our everyday lives a little bit more interesting.Because Boyne is good at making things simple to understand, I think I would recommend this book to middle school kids. Love Lindsay Sands with vampire stories and I'd course Hannnah Howell with her historical twist made this a very good read. Would I like to see more of the duo, you bet!

It was a good book. The only thing I don’t really like was how they wrote. It took a bit to understand and be able to read at my usual pace. I get that for some people it might make them more immersed but for me it was a hinderance. .

I was uncertain when I purchased the book as to what, exactly, it's format was. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that it consisted of two intertwined stories by two different authors. I'm a big Hannah Howell fan, but I'd never read anything by Lynsay Sands. I was impressed by how well the two authors pulled it off. Though their styles are different, the stories mesh well. The personalities of the protagonists are also quite different, as is the way each couple is introduced to each other. The secondary characters in each story are also well developed and either quite appealing or they make very excellent, if stereotypical, villains. Easy to read in one sitting.

I hope there are more books in this series. Loved every wordThe Scott highland series is one I will re read over again in the future

I never want to miss a book in every series and I highly recommend this book and all books by this author! Fantastic book, you will not want to put it down, I know I didn't and I wanted more and I feel that you will also! Great, Great, Book!

Worth the read. A simple love stories with a believable storyline that warms the heart. Eva MacAdie character was humorous which lightened the storyline. I found myself snickering at her as she tried to become exceptional by her new husbands clan.

Action packed romance with a strong heroine, a vampire with a soft heart of gold, dedicated clan members and the traitorous young relative who wants to be number one.
