Martin Luther doesn't make me cry. I'm over him. Jaded.Imagine my utter shock when this graphic novella about his origin story left me by turns in suspense and in tears! At one point, I yelled "Shut up, Melanchthon!" His cameo was interrupting the story. One doesn't treat Melanchthon like Wesley Crusher. The difference is seeing Luther through his children's eyes. I was hearing the story as it happened to a dad, not just to a statue.For Christian Ed. and Youth folks, you want to use this for confirmation. Not only will your students appreciate the diversion and lack of guile, but you will appreciate the study guides that are ready to use in small groups.What else is noteworthy?- Luther's daughter is a great character. She gets the best storylines in the book.-The art is awesome!-Katie Luther is shown having a tough job.-Did I mention the great study guides that make this the best Reformation confirmation unit?The nasty bit: (You need to buy it anyway.)-The binding is plain staples and will compromise the ability of the book to outlast adolescents. This can be remedied with book tape or creative use of craft knives and plastic binder sleeves. However, Augsburg Fortress should have give the author and illustrator their due with a full sewn binding.So, why 4 stars? Because I can't give 4.5 stars for the binding. Otherwise, it's awesome.Again, great fun. Obviously well researched. I loved the art. Loses a star for the binding and inconsistent use of language.
A great easy, graphic novel story of Martin Luther. Good for anyone wanting a way of telling the story to children. Purchased for a church Library, I'm certain that this will be used a great deal in the coming year with the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
What a beautiful and simple message of Gods love and grace, available to all. A message of hope, the mission of Martin Luther, made into a readable and understandable format for all ages. So very powerful and needed today.

very well written. lots of imagination, yet historically accurate. good read, young or old.
