This fourth volume would be a great supplement to any leadership college curriculum. The fact that these experiences take place in an aviation setting is secondary to the detailed circumstances and decisions that could apply anywhere. The various personality types introduced are certainly found outside of "Eddie's" realm, and the tactics used to confront or otherwise deal with them are transferrable to the corporate and everyday world as well. Excellently written, lots of description and analysis, and great on its own as a management and leadership book even if you are not a pilot and have not read the first three volumes. The first three have a lot more technical info on advanced piloting and related knowledge, but this volume is mostly addressing managing pilots and operations, so applies to a much more general audience.
If you're reading these reviews and aren't sure whether this book is worth your time and money I am not sure there is anything anyone could tell you to convince you this book and the previous in the series are worth every penny they cost and every second they take to read.A fascinating insight for civilian pilots into the world of the Air Force with many important life lessons conveyed along the way. My copies are front and center on the bookshelf and referenced regularly.Thank you Eddie for putting pen to paper!
Eddie (James Albright's writing persona) talks about his year in command of a US Air Force VIP airlift squadron in Germany and the challenges that he had to overcome, both technical and with the higher-ups. The leadership lessons contained in the book can apply to everyone, not just pilots. While the other books were using the flight stories as a way to supplement the flight lessons, a major portion of this book offers an alternate explanation of the 1996 CT-43 crash in Dubrovnik, Croatia. This strays from the usual path, but it's still an excellent read.
It's very seldom that i read a book which i am unable to put down, but this was one. I loved it, I use code7700.com as a source of both Gulfstream and aviation knowledge. I have also read Flight Lessons 1-3 and routinely use them for reference. I fly in a similar civilian operation and its amazing to see that the same personalities exist in both civilian and military life. Looking forward to book 5 in the series.
I was referred to the Code 7700 website & James Albright’s books by a friend and fellow pilot. Starting out of order, I read book 3 first. I was so impressed I bought books 1 and 2 along with book 4 when it came out. The writing and examples are great life lessons and aviation lessons. It makes you analyze your operation and think about practices and procedures. All 4 books are a very worthwhile read and investment.
Highly recommended for every pilot with any interest in aviation, aviation management, and aviation safety. Same engaging style as the first three book.
Having read the other books. It's another gem. Very well written, easy to read. Can not recommend highly enough. Some good lessons without being lectured. Can't wait for the next one.
A must read for all pilots. I have learned more from this and his website than I ever thought and will be eternally grateful.
