I read Defeating Your Adversary in The Court of Heaven early yesterday morning.. I had more questions than answers afterwards. If the enemy has been defeated and plundered, if the sacrifice of Jesus was successful, if the scriptures in the epistles are true, why does the enemy and these evil spirits have such total control over the believer such that the believer could not obtain a breakthrough without going to these courts to repent and obtain a release and come back to the earth and enforce the release to get a breakthrough. According to the book the evil spirits might even disregard the release!!! Also according to the author it is difficult to see the one presiding over this court with Jesus acting as the advocate.Several things I read in the book bothered me:1." If someone is accused and they fail to appear and answer the accusations, they cannot be exonerated, even if they are not guilty". I guess this applies to believers. The author cites Job and Joshua in Zechariah. But he did not mention the fact that in Job we were told that Satan appeared with the sons of God in what looked like a meeting of a sort of council. He also forgot that at that time Satan was operating with Adam's authority that he got through the sin of man. My understanding of the work of Christ is that it is no longer the case, because Jesus at His resurrection declared "all authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth".2. The books that contained the record of the sins committed by those who visit these mobile.courts are openedThis goes against the scriptures and the finished work of Christ. If I have to appear in these courts to obtain forgiveness, and there is a record of my sins, and the enemy still has such a power over the believer it seems to indicate that something is lacking in the sacrifice of Christ. What do we do with 1 John 2:1 "My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous". What about 1 John 1:8-9 "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.3. What happens to the believer who does not appear in the court to answer the accusation, does his sin remain in the book? What happens to him if he dies without appearing to the court to have that sin removed from that book? Does he have to deal with it then or just go on to hell?4 What happened to Rev 12:7-11 if the enemy can still come before God and accuse you.4.what happened to Romans 8:1-2, 33-34 if we can be condemned by the enemy's accusation5. How do I interpret Heb 9:13-14? If the Old Testament saints obtained their breakthrough through the blood of animals, why is it that the blood of Jesus cannot give me that minimum? I can go on and on one scripture after the other. I need more from the author..My understanding of the scriptures is that Jesus is supreme over the whole of creation, and that His sacrifice was the ultimate and supersedes every other sacrifice from the beginning to the end of time, that is the only sacrifice that still resounds in all of creation. He became sin, He bore the consequences of sin, He became the curse, He defeated, death, the grave, principalities and powers, and the rulers of darkness, "He rendered powerless he who HAD the power of death that is the Devil, and He holds the keys of Death and Hades". It is difficult to believe the scriptures and believe what I read. I believe our problem is the mixing of the Old and New Covenants and the lack of true understanding of the finished work. May the Lord open our understanding of what He has already done.

I chose this rating because of its impact on my life. Now let's see what God has revealed into and through the spirit of this author, this insightful Man of God regarding the various other topics he alluded to, the higher courts, the courts of angels, of chancellors, the courts of scribes. I really appreciate this and would strongly recommend it to anyone who is really serious about doing effective godly Kingdom businesses on a whole, for the glory of God. Now I'm going to continue to search for and compare other perspectives on the entire subjects regarding the Courts of Heaven, those that are complete, covering all, with a greater and more in-depth , or comprehensive range, if you will. This is great for starters, but nowadays, there's a remnant of God's people who are studying and searching for complete details to help further edify the Body of Christ. Keep up the great work, in Jesus name.

Recommended for every follower of Jesus Christ , especially leaders who want to help others get free, and those who are seeking their own freedom in Christ. Easy to read and understand, chock full of wisdom, and backed up by God's Word. Applies to any situation where the devil is attacking or lying or harming someone in any way. The blood of Jesus is your defense! The principles in this book have worked for myself and my family and several i've prayed with recently. Each time, there is a peaceful and powerful victory in Jesus!

I found that this book made it easy for me to understand and took away my fear of it all. As soon as I finished reading I went to the Court and was able to navigate easily and do what it said. I highly recommend this simply written, easy to understand book. I have several of Praying Medics books and have loved them all and this one is no exception.

I didn't get too far into this book before the Holy Spirit nudged me and said to stop reading. I agree with some of the other reviewers that this borders on cultish heresy. I should have checked reviews before downloading. I will be removing this and another book by the same author from my library.

Praying Medic gives us the barebones of how to defeat our adversary over and over again in the Court of Accusation. Each defeat against the adversary, our accuser, in the Court of Accusation guarantees a blessing of restoration, healing, deliverance, and the removal of strongholds. This book is indeed a treasure for the body of Christ.

This is the first book I have ever read by Praying Medic and I will certainly read another! His ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner made reading this book so enjoyable! The book was an easy read, but there was great depth to the content. He doesn't waste time with unnecessary illustrative fluff, and yet does an excellent job of conveying his message. As he mentions in the book, he gets in-depth about one of the courts of heaven, while there are many. After reading the book, I felt equipped and prepared to stand before the accuser in court. Reading the book was certainly a great intro into the subject of the courts of heaven. Recently, I have been hearing many people teach on this subject, but from a much higher level of understanding. For anyone who is new, or somewhat familiar, to understanding the courts of heaven, this is a great book to start with. I found the text to be very intriguing and quite practical also.I noticed that as I read the book that I began having visions of the reality of the truth that was shared in this text. Our adversary is standing before God, just like in the book of Job, trying to accuse us of anything he can. It is our right and our responsibility to appear in the courtroom that we may plead the blood of Christ Jesus as our defense.I highly recommend this book to anyone to desires to stand before God in the courts of heaven.

Review

"Maybury's forte is explaining economics in an interesting, logical, and easy-to-understand manner no small achievement in economics pedagogy. Equally important, the economics in 'Whatever Happened to Penny Candy' makes such good sense. When government's economic policies make us say 'uncle,' let's hope it's 'Uncle Eric,' Maybury's letterwriter and alter ego." --John G. Murphy, Ph.D., President, National Schools Committee for Economic Education (commenting about the previous edition)

"This book is must reading for children of all ages. Its presentation of some of the fundamentals of economics is lucid, accurate, and above all highly readable." --Michael A. Walker, Executive Director, The Fraser Institute, British Columbia, Canada (commenting about the previous edition)

"This one slim volume can and should replace at least one full shelf of weighty tomes. There's really no excuse for being baffled by economic theory and economic theoreticians when you can spend an evening with this grand book and learn the ABC's of a subject about which the politicians, in particular, wish you'd stay illiterate." --Karl Hess, Author, "Capitalism for Kids" (commenting about the previous edition"This book is must reading for children of all ages. Essential reading for every teenager. This book should be required reading in every high school economics class. Of course it never will be. I learned more information that is actually applicable in the real world than I did in Micro and Macro Econ in college. I like the writing style. After reading this again recently, one could be faulted for thinking that inflation is no longer a concern. We will one day enter an inflationary cycle again, and when we do, this book can help your kids to be prepared mentally and financially.

This book is amazing! It was a required reading for my children's homeschooling curriculum. It is so well written and they learned so much about economics. It is recommended for middle schoolers, but I read this to my 6th and 3rd grader and the 3rd grader was so interested in this material and understood most of it! I have been telling all my friend's about this book. Strongly recommend this book if you want to give your children (or yourself) a basic understanding of economics. Something EVERYONE should have!

A sign of a genius is the ability to explain a "complex" subject in simple terms using basic language. This author is a genius. This book will change the entire way that you look at your day-to-day life as a participant in the American economy. You will actually laugh when you read the "Wall Street Journal" or listen to either a politician or "talking head" discussing the economy after reading this book. This book demonstrates that "The Emperor Has No Clothes". The only reason "The Man" makes economics complicated is to keep the masses from understanding what is being done to them.

This book lives up to its reputation! It is a fantastic explanation of economic basics, clear and easy to read, entertaining and well written. I especially like how the material is presented systematically and in small, understandable chunks via letters from an economist uncle. I appreciate how the author gives historic examples of the principles discussed, and shows how the economy has influenced history. The adults in the house learned from this book, too!

Watch a video of adults interviewed on the street on basic economics. They do not understand where money even comes from, let alone what function the Federal Reserve Serves. If you want your kids to have a concise, clear understanding of economics (which, our government would rather they not have), I would absolutely recommend this book over any other. Clear, good illustrations, synopsis of history of money and corruption (seems they go hand-in-hand, no?). I highly recommend this book.

Fabulous book with the clearest explanation of the cause of inflation and the businesss cycle. These ideas can be hard to wrap your head around, but this book makes it so clear and simple. What is inflation? What causes booms and busts? What do people mean when they talk about "sound money"? All these questions are answered, with a clear writing style that an 8th-grader could easily understand. If you are looking to move past a CNN cartoon understanding of the economy, start here. To boot, the book is chock-full of extra stats, charts, references, etc, that make it a superb starting point to learn more.

This book is outstanding. It explains money so clearly and how governments (the producers of money) over the centuries have treated it. He explains inflation and recession in terms that a novice as green as I am can easily understand. Since money is the ultimate fungible medium for everyone on the planet, understanding how it is influenced and controlled is essential for us all--children, workers, and retirees. We all count on money, so we should learn who affects its value and how that therefore affects us. Maybe it's just I who have been in the dark so long that I have found this book so enlightening that I would give it six stars on a scale of five (even though Amazon won't let me). But if I'm actually not that divorced from the mainstream, then I suspect others may find it as exciting as I did.

This is a brilliant book for all ages. I got it to read to my 7 year old daughter, but I am learning just as much as she is. I love the real life examples in the books. For example, when the book talked about runaway inflation, it gave quite a few examples of items that have been affected by this type of inflation. This will be a book that we will read together many times over. I am excited to try other books in this series.

Review

"Wasn't That a Time reads more like a Dickens novel than the history of a folk group. God, what a wild ride. And I remember it well."--Alan Arkin, Academy Award-winning actor and author of An Improvised Life"How many synonyms for 'essential cultural history' are there? In an amnesiac America, nothing's overlooked like our dissident legacies--and nothing's needed more these days. Jarnow's book makes this inoculation into good, gossipy fun, and musically knowledgeable enough that you'll want to reach for the soundtrack and fill in all the blanks."--Jonathan Lethem, author of The Feral Detective and Motherless Brooklyn"The Weavers inspired several generations not only to sing but to try to use music to change the world. Jarnow's deep exploration of their journey is a timely reminder of their importance both in their time and ours."--Elijah Wald, author of Dylan Goes Electric! and Escaping the Delta"In a moment when new forms of protest music are desperately needed, Jesse Jarnow's Wasn't That a Time delivers an incredibly vivid account of the kind of dedication and bravery required to change people's minds and galvanize a community through the power of song."--Ryan Walsh, author of Astral Weeks"A well-researched music biography best read with some traditional American folk songs playing in the background."―Kirkus Reviews"[A] dramatic, raucous account...Detailed and smartly reported, this work marvelously captures the four voices in a complex era that influenced pop-folk bands that followed."―Publishers Weekly (starred review)"Extensively researched, Jarnow's deep and accomplished portrait of these iconic musicians reverberates with a mastery that will appeal to both fans and everyone interested in the history of music."―Booklist "Explores...the creative, idiosyncratic, difficult personalities who briefly bottled lightning and subsequently transformed American music from Bob Dylan's output to schoolhouse sing-alongs...For fans of the Weavers and those they influenced, as well as lovers of 20th-century American folk music."―Library Journal "Chronicles the rise, fall and resurgence of one of the most influential bands in music history."―Music Connection"Wasn't That A Time does an impressive job of pulling together an array of diverse sources, from secret government files to private journals, painting a rich portrait of the strange days that the Weavers helped define...Every page of Wasn't That A Time is filled with revelations, all told with Jarnow's now-signature freewheeling style. A fantastic read."―Aquarium Drunkard

I feel as if I have always been a fan of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. I first saw Pete at a concert he did in my high school, way back when. I have seen him many times since in many iterations and admired him immensely. Learning more about his time before and with the Weavers made for good, informative reading. Unfortunately the poor writing style, the bad prose, padded and probably guesswork innuendos and the like made this a very difficult book to read. I found myself having to put it down time and again, contemplating whether I could continue reading given how weak the words were coming off. It is rare that I find a book this bad and yet I did finish it because of my love for Pete ,the Weavers and the cause. Not for the squeamish.

A wonderful, revealing look at 4 people who "made in difference" in our musical history and our political history.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband, and he was thrilled to receive it. So far he’s liking it very much.

The reason the folk group the Weavers existed was to get people to sing along. They wanted people to feel what they felt when singing songs like “This Land is Your Land” and “If I Had a Hammer.” They had political motivations, and at times some of them were members of the Communist Party, but it was always the songs that were the reason the four of them got on stage together. Some of the Weavers, like other leftists who came of age in the 1930s and during the years of the Popular Front, inherited their radicalism from their parents, who were socialists before there was a Russian Revolution. For instance, Charles Seeger, Pete's father, was an avant-garde composer and musicologist who belonged to the Composers' Collective, which wrote modernist music for proletarians.Several people in Wasn't That a Time by music historian Jesse Jarnow describe Pete Seeger as distant. That may be partly because he was sent to boarding school at the age of four.Ronnie Gilbert's mother Sarah was a dressmaker who emigrated from Poland and was a member of the Communist Party. Ronnie Gilbert inherited her desire to sing and make music, and not just her politics, from her mother, who sang with the Jewish Bund Chorus.Sarah Gilbert took Ronnie to a political rally in the Garment District, where Ronnie was struck by the power of Paul Robeson singing “Go Down, Moses.”At a Socialist summer camp for workers' children, singing was part of every activity. They were taught that singing was a form of battle. Ronnie Gilbert later wrote that they thought the Cold War would be won by singers and songwriters.Lee Hays and Fred Hellerman were other two voices. They originally were known as the Almanac Singers (which described various groupings of musicians and singers who came and went from a domicile known as Almanac House). Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, Lee Hays, and Fred Hellerman eventually took the name the Weavers from a play by Gerhart Hauptmann. The Weavers were mentioned in Counterattack, the bible of the blacklist on the East Coast, and they lost a job hosting a TV summer replacement show.Pete Seeger was the so-called spark plug of the group, always active. At a show in Omaha he threw his banjo through a table. Lee Hays had a problem with alcohol. Fred Hellerman was the most professional and the one willing to make the compromises necessary to be successful in show business. Ronnie Gilbert was easy going and, after Pete, the one most committed to the cause. She identified the song “This Land is Your Land” as one the Weavers should record immediately. As the McCarthy Era was coming to a close and the Weavers were able to work on television again, the group decided to do a cigarette commercial. However Pete's mother-in-law had just been diagnosed with cancer and other things about touring bothered him. They'd been on the verge of breaking up ever since they got together. Erik Darling, from the folk group the Tarriers, replaced Pete, if any other musician could replace Pete Seeger. When the Weavers went on tour again, they in Britain at the height of the skiffle craze after Lonnie Donegan's hit with “Rock Island Line.” A lot of music histories treat skiffle as merely a precursor to rock 'n' roll. But skiffle was political in its own way (as Billy Bragg shows in his book on that era, Roots, Radicals and Rockers: How Skiffle Changed the World).A new folk revolution was led by Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and the Kingston Trio. Jesse Jarnow doubts that Pete Seeger threatened Bob Dylan's amplifier with an ax at the Newport Folk Festival. Ronnie Gilbert and Fred Hellerman experimented with LSD. Lee Hays finally found some peace among his friends. The Weavers never stopped asking us to sing along.

Marking this one did-not-finish at page 124.The premise sounded interesting: a very popular musical group whose socialist ideals ran afoul of the government during the Red Scare at the beginning of the Cold War. It’s what I call a ‘social or cultural history.’ Unfortunately this seems to be a borderline-hagiography of The Weavers. It might not be so bad except it’s clearly written with fans of the group in mind. I knew nothing of them to begin with. I’d heard of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie (I think), but didn’t know anything about them. The book isn’t a good introduction to them (except there seems to be some hero-worship, especially toward Guthrie). In fact, it’s not a good introduction to the topics of folk music or anti-communism either. I wasn’t even exactly sure what constituted “folk music” and had to look it up, and same with “hootenanny,” because neither are ever really defined in the book. But it was the writing style that most turned me off. It pretty much glosses over all the unpalatable aspects of the members of the group, often twisting itself into knots explaining how they “technically” weren’t lying when they made various statements. But when it started mixing in modern terms such as “fake news” and “marginalized,” I decided I’d had enough. It’s just not for me.

The Weavers were an integral part of my childhood: their 1950 recording of “Goodnight, Irene” was one of my favorites and I sang it over and over and over and over again. I watched the HUAC hearings on black and white television and saw them in movie theatre newsreels. But I didn’t understand them – or the Weavers until some time later. I had a slight acquaintanceship with each of them in the late 1950s/early 1960s. And that was right around the time I became very interested in politics and discovered that the Weavers, especially Pete Seeger, were very political. Seeger, in fact, was a devoted Stalinist well into the 1990s. Author Jesse Jarnow makes no secret of his political leanings and, in fact, they intrude upon his narrative. His portraits of each of the Weavers are detailed, sometimes to the point of tedium. Likewise, he describes the internal dynamics of the group, which I was totally unaware of, in considerable detail. Overall, this is an informative book, though I think the politics on al sides could have been handled better. As it is, though I loathed Seeger’s sympathies for Stalin, I never tired of the Weavers and their music.Jerry

I grew up in a very strict Christian home and heard thousands of hours of hell-fire and brimstone style preaching growing up. Many nights I'd lie in bed terrified of what would happen when I died and met this angry God in the sky. If I "died in my sin" or with a "rebellious heart" I'd be doomed to an eternity in hell. This caused a lot of nightmares and sleepless nights to say the least. I ditched my religion after a year or two in college, but the fear of death, God and Hell has stuck with me, even into my mid-thirties. I just haven't been able to ever shake it completely. When life is good, and I'm calm and thinking rationally, I realize the idea of an eternal hell is ridiculous. But if I'm having a bad day, feel depressed or anxious, or sick, sometimes those old fears rear their ugly heads, and it is very unpleasant. I got the chance to meet Kelvin and speak with him on several occasions. He is one of the nicest, smartest and caring guys you could ever meet. He was genuinely concerned about what I was going through, and not just trying to sell me a book or a seminar or whatever. The information he shared with me, which was reinforced reading this book, has helped me tremendously to just say “Forget about it!!!” whenever the fear of death starts to creep in. I don’t let myself dwell on it anymore. The fear of death is irrational and robs us of enjoying the present moment. The energy wasted on fear is better spent on doing positive things with your life, spending time with family and friends, building relationships, and having fun, come what may. This book attacks the illogical fear of death from many different angles, not just religious. Whether you're afraid of something bad happening to you after you die, or ceasing to exist forever, or the actual process of dying itself, this book deals with it all and is sure to help you in some way. I was honestly at the end of my rope when I reached out to Kelvin. The fear of death was ruining my life, but after 2 decades of struggling with this fear, and reading on the subject, listening to YouTube videos, talking to a therapist, I was starting to think there was no hope for me. Nothing worked! But I was wrong. There is help and there is hope. I'm very grateful for Kelvin and the work he does. It has changed my life and made me more optimistic about the future. My attitude about death now is that whatever happens, I'll be able to handle it:) The relief I've felt has been nothing short of a miracle.

After graduating early from Dartmouth, Kelvin completed the TM teacher training program in La Antilla, Spain with Maharishi and returned as the New Hampshire State Coordinator for the TM movement. He continued to lecture, teach TM, and lead advanced TM residence courses, including a one-month in-residence program to 600 participants on the Science of Creative Intelligence (SCI) at the University of Maine, Orono. At Yale Graduate School, Kelvin continued teaching TM at the university and throughout Connecticut. In 1974, on behalf of the TM movement, Kelvin successfully renegotiated its lease with Yale University. He also taught the first TM meditation courses at West Point Military Academy, which involved lectures and meditation classes to several hundred cadets, officers, and staff.Within days of graduating from Yale, Kelvin got a phone call from Maharishi saying that the TM organization had a free first class round-trip ticket on Swissair's inaugural flight to Hong Kong and that he would like Kelvin to go there to teach TM.As the first National Leader of Hong Kong and Director of Expansion in East Asia, Kelvin established the TM organization and lectured to all sectors of Hong Kong society including business, education, and government, and was a guest speaker on television shows, at universities, and was featured in many newspaper articles in the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong Standard, Sing Tao Daily, and others. He also lectured and taught the first TM courses in the US Army in South Korea teaching on all the bases, including on the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) between North and South Korea. The last official TM project that Maharishi asked Kelvin to lead involved the training of Chinese American meditators to become TM teachers to prepare them to teach in the People's Republic of China. This special project was based at Maharishi International University (MIU) in 1978. Kelvin no longer teaches TM meditation, but credits Maharishi for revolutionizing the practice of meditation worldwide by bringing attention to the fact that any meditation can and should be effortless.Kelvin teaches both private sessions and group classes worldwide — including Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Although his days are occupied with teaching and speaking he is still very accessible to help people seeking insight into meditation and/or removing the fear of death.

To the Author Kelvin: I read about your dad’s death and how you involved your children with his final days here in the physical world, and your mom’s death and how you wrote about it - touched my heart. My condolences to you for losing both of your parents (especially with your mom’s early death). Adding this information in at the beginning of the book makes you (as an author) unfiltered and real. It leaves no stone unturned. For the Readers:In tremendous detail, Kelvin shares personal testimonials and stories (from clients and friends), provoking thought on all levels surrounding: recognition memories, past lives and reincarnation. And like a fluid stream winding throughout the book, he thoughtfully reminds readers the sheer importance of being in the "NOW", and the importance of living life in the continual present.

Overcoming the fear of death requires clear, compassionate thinking, which Kelvin Chin shares with readers throughout his new book. Kelvin draws on his strengths as a storyteller and a popular lecturer to explain why we don't need to be afraid of death no matter what we believe about it — and Kelvin covers the whole range of beliefs, from the totally materialistic to the most exotic versions of an afterlife. Since death is as normal a part of life as birth is, Kelvin effectively encourages us to stop scaring ourselves silly about it.

This is a childrens book inspired by the contemporary Christian worship song "Good, Good Father."The book follows a little bear along in a plot to offer a gift to the King of the land so that he can get the King to help his friends. Along the way many offer him ideas of what the King would like and which tell us a little about the King. The bear gets confused about who the King really is but continues on his way to give the King a gift. Upon meeting the King, the bear discovers that the King is a good father to whom he can always go and will always delight and enjoy being with him.The book has an important biblical message for all of us of the open arms of God presented in a warm way that children can grasp.I am a pastor reviewing this children's book and I loved the basic message of the book. The illustrations are good. The only criticism I have is that it seems a weird plot line to me personally that Tucker, the bear, feels the need to bribe the King with a gift to receive His help. That part is a little awkward for me personally connecting with the plotline but aside from that, it is a good book with a good message.

This book is well-written, easy to read aloud, and brightly illustrated. The parallels between the King and God are not vague. Chris Tomlin and Pat Barrett did a great job telling the story of a little bear who wants to know what the King is like. Immersive and entertaining, Good Good Father allows parents and their children to discover that, not only is God the King, He is also the Good, Good Father indeed. My kids love this book, and request it every night for bedtime reading. If you are looking for a book that will engage your kids in a discussion about the Father, I strongly recommend Good Good Father. 5 stars indeed!!!

It's a cute story. Those of us who know the song can appreciate the nuance of how privileged we are that Jesus revealed God as the good Father to us. For the child who doesn't know Jesus, however, it's only a cute story about a figure who could be easily confused with their Daddy. So in spite of the cute, I found it lacking in telling my 3 and 4 year olds anything that could feed their spirit. Which is the only reason I purchased this book.

I purchased this book as well as the board book version. Based on a Chris Tomlin song, these books tell a very special story of love. It is now on my top ten list of truly GREAT stories to read to the littles in my life!Too often in our world, our kids get caught up in cartoons - both books and video/video games - with too much violence and not enough love and kindness (in my opinion as a long time educator). If you want to expose your kiddos to a sweet message of love with beautiful artwork, this is a great one to grab!

Excellent story! Must get for your children. Great confidence builder also.

We haven't actually read the book yet but I would say the earliest age a child would be interested in this book might be around 8. The cover is a little deceiving on the age frame. I had thought it might be more for young children, but I doubt my age 6 grandson who is very much into science would be able to sit through the stories and find them interesting.

Incredible book! Such a great illustration of how God loves us, and how when we come to Him, He runs to welcome us and is eager to help us. Bought one as a children's gift. Then, after reading it, bought 1 for myself - to remind me of my Father's constant love - not based on my performance or anything I can give Him but on His abundant, freely given, love for me. I actually read it to my college-age son, and he was touched. So I bought one for him for Christmas and told him it was to remind him of God's unconditional love for him - and that one day he could read it to his own children.

I ordered this book after listening to the radio and hearing the author give a brief run down of the first part of it. I just had to know the ending.... I read the whole book and it is now one of my favorite children's books. I will be buying for any baby showers I go to in the future

#23,992 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I'm pretty sure I read one of Clifford Irving's novels many, many years ago, although for the life of me I don't recall which one. Then, when he got embroiled in the great hoax - writing a fake autobiography of the reclusive Howard Hughes - I pretty much lost interest in the guy. Even after doing jail time, though, he never stopped writing - and from what information I can glean, he's always been pretty darned good at the craft. As I've noted in many reviews, I belong to a number of websites that offer free and low-cost books in Kindle format. Not too long ago, I found this book, described as a "legal thriller," on sale for 99 cents (as we speak, it's going for $2.99 at Amazon). The plot sounded interesting, so I threw caution to the wind and blew my dollar on it. And what do you know? I really enjoyed reading it.To be sure, I'd call it weird; while it describes the life of a man and woman in love - and includes a trial in which the man, an attorney, defends the woman's elderly parents in a court of law - the whole thing is woven around a place that could be likened to a communal Fountain of Youth. Set not in Florida but high in the mountains of Colorado near Aspen, the tiny town of Springhill fiercely protects a big secret: a water source that, apparently, allows them to live almost unlimited years while retaining their youthful appearance and mental and physical strengths. Along the way, their solidarity has been augmented by the passing down of a special language ("harping," for instance, means seriously discussing issues among themselves with the intent of persuading one to a different point of view).Cool so far? Well, hear this: The townspeople's ruling committee agreed at the outset that 100 years is the limit; any person who reaches that milestone must agree to die voluntarily. Death is accomplished humanely (the ethics of euthanasia and assisted suicide aside), and all the denizens are okay with that simply because they get to live far longer than most humans and in much better shape. Everything, it seems, has remained true to plan for generations; but let's be honest: had it remained so, this book wouldn't exist. What happened is that Sophie Henderson, one of the townspeople and a committee member, met and fell in love with Manhattan attorney Dennis Conway, who visited Aspen to ski. Dennis, who has two young children and no wife, pulls up his New York stakes, packs up the kids and moves to Springhill to be with his love. Then, a local couple and friends of Sophie's parents are found dead, and her parents are accused of helping them commit suicide. Whether right or wrong from a moral standpoint, such assistance is against the law (this book was published in 1996, BTW) and the region's law enforcement insists that they be brought to trial. Dennis, believing them to be innocent, agrees to represent Sophie's mother, "Bitsy"; her father, Scott, himself an attorney, insists on representing himself. From this point on, my lips are sealed; suffice it to say it was hard for me to put this one down (I even kept one eye on my Kindle while I was watching the NCAA basketball tournament. I'm thankful that I managed to finish it before the Final Four games, when two of my favorite teams - Kentucky and Duke - will take to the court against other teams and hopefully face off in the championship game.

Two thirds good, last third a whimpering let-down. Too many spoilers to explain the substance of this Ci story, but suffice to say most readers would feel horribly let down by an end phase that made no sense or logic. Personally l think Dennis should have fallen off the mountain, the artist (who forgot his paintings behind!!!!!) should have had his heart attack and the town left alone. Clifford Irving wrote some of the most amazing court room dramas...pity he thought he could write out-and-out fantasy.

I want to like Clifford Irving's books. I loved "The Angel of Zin" and I'm waiting to love another one. This wasn't it. The plot is implausible. The end is not as suspensful as it was intended to be. The characters are not entertaining or likeable, and I can forgive a poor plot if the characters are great, but no. They are pretty much plot devices, a sort of exercise in "Hey, what if...?" and never really convincing as actual people. This reads like a rough draft to me. "Punch it up," I want to say. "Make me care about somebody." The ending is supposed to be moving, I think, but I cannot get excited about the fate of plot device people. The blurb said book clubs will love it because it opens a dialogue about euthanasia, or something like that. It doesn't. It might open a discussion about the perils of eternal life, but I doubt it. And the discussion wouldn't last long anyway.

This book has an interesting premise about a community that will do anything to protect their secret, but I felt like the main conflict(the trial) was not out together with very strong logic, and the end was a bit too tidy.It was a fun read but not the best I've read. The book also needed a bit more care by the editor, as it has several typos and formatting errors.

This book should be rated under the genre of fantasy as the main plot is somewhat unbelievable. It's really misleading to rate this as a legal thriller since only a small part is spent in the courtroom defending two of the characters. There are parts of the book that are unnecessary to the development of the plot such as the "mystery language". There are also parts that are "left up in the air" without explanation or seem unrealistic. Without giving anything away, what is "allowed" in the ending is quite unbelieveable - it doesn't match up with what has been disallowed in the rest of the book.

This was a great book. The punctuation and sentence structures were awful. One paragraph would have you in a blizzard, the very next in a courtroom...it was confusing. New chapters needed to be started to avoid confusion. I'm guessing that was from the book being converted to the kindle version. After all these years you would think they would have that figured out.

I loved Irving's "Final Arguement" and "Trial" and figured this would be more of the same. I'm not sure what genre this book was supposed to be. It didn't work as a murder mystery and for the Sci-fi/occult theme it was even less believable. All of the characters fit into molds that were too perfect and hence, unbelievable. It even had overtures of a romance novel. I read it until the end waiting for something to tie everything together but nothing did. Waste of time and money.

The book kept my interest all the way through; it was never boring. This was my first Clifford Irving book, and I enjoyed his writing enough to keep any eye out for more of his work. I was transported into the Maroon Bells wilderness, with which I'm acquainted. The trial sequences were authentic, and not embarrassing from a trial lawyer's perspective, unlike most trial scenes in current legal shows on television. My wife and I very much enjoyed reading the book aloud to each other. It was a page turner: once the tension in the story rose, we read many chapters in a sitting. I'd recommend the book to anyone who enjoys immersion in a legally oriented mystery.
