So dense.I purchased this book for an "Ethics in the Information Age" class. I consider myself pretty technologically adept, but I had a very difficult time getting through each chapter of this book. Each page has so much information that needs to be retained, it's almost painful. I appreciated the case studies at the end of the chapters that helped put some of the information into context, but I would have appreciated more of this in the chapters themselves. It was too flatly written for my taste, and I didn't find it interesting to read. Required reading, though, so I made it through. A lot of wonderful information is found here, but accessing and retaining it when you are flooded with billions of bytes of facts is the true test.

The rating is to inform you that I got the book although a few days than expected! Upon a glance, I can say that it would prove helpful for the study that I am conducting on Human Rights, Cyber Social Media and the Security Issue in the Mena Region. I will certainly write a lengthy review upon finishing to read it.

This was a great price on a great book but I returned it because I bought the wrong book for my sons class.

Knowledgeable author and an excellent text, but unfortunately the text suffers from a lack of proof reading. Simply paying an intern to follow the instructions in chapter 3 and attempt to get Hadoop to start would have highlighted the many frustrating typos. This is a shame, because the text is really full of useful information and guidance for administrators.A comfort with White's Hadoop the Definitive Guide, is strongly recommended before attempting to make use of this text.

The author of this book is a former Oracle DBA and a proliferative writer, I read some of his books on Oracle Database and now his hadoop book. The logic of narration is clear and the content is somewhat easy for those who already read Hadoop: The Definitive Guide. Highly recommended for those who wants to know more about hadoop administration. But there is one problem to note: the writer seems to write the book in a hurry, since I found many typos an mistakes here and there in the book.

I like the way this book is done. It is a very interesting way to do a biography. There are maps, and names and terms at the bottom of the pages to further help the students understand the material. The paper is not white and easy on the eyes. In the back of the book is a list of people who sailed on the Mayflower and what they did for a living. There is also a picture of the boat inside and out. I think this makes the biography much more interesting for children. The Accelerated Reader level is a 7.1.

My Grandma bought this book and suggested I read it. We will be learning about Plymouth Plantation in the fall, so this sounded like a good choice for summer reading. I learned a great deal about Myles Standish, but I also learned about the many Kings and Queens of England during his lifetime. Myles Standish was just an ordinary boy until he joined the army. He became a Captain and was called “Captain Shrimpie. “ Read the book to find out why! He was friends with William Bradford who asked him to go to The New World as their military advisor. That was the reason he went. He was called a “Stranger” by the Pilgrims. It wasn’t an easy life for Myles Standish. The timeline at the bottom of the story didn’t match up with what was happening in the story on the page, but I would recommend this book to my classmates.

We are a family of Patriots and history lovers. In studying about the Pilgrims, my 8-yr old grandson became enchanted with Myles Standish, and when he saw this book online, he HAD to have it, thus it was under the Christmas tree. BTW-- there aren't many books or much info about good ole Myles Standish, and so we were very happy to find this book. He is reading it now and likes it very much.

I read this for a change of pace from the Social Studies textbook. It gives a great background of European history and what was going on there before and while the Plymouth Colony was settled (Spanish inquisition, marriages between monarchies, evil queens, etc.)Unfortunately my students found it hard to follow and were very very bored early on and I had to abandon the book.

Too mature for my 10 year old, very long and detailed information.

Perfect for homeschoolers. Easy text keeps the kids reading.

We are direct descendants of Myles Standish and purchased this book for a niece. It was informative and delightful to read!!

Not the actual poem! Doesn't even include it in there! The biography isn't very well-written either so it's hard to follow, I'd say to skip over this.

I wasn’t careful when I was ordering this book and thought I was getting the adult version of this book. I was surprised when I opened up my package and it was the children’s version. I checked my order and sure enough it was me that made the mistake! Regardless, I gave the book a try, since I am a cat lover and didn’t mind having a quick and easy read.This was a really sweet story. I loved reading about how Dewey made his life at the library. In addition to being a cat lover, I also work in a library. It made me wish for a library cat of my own! I enjoyed all the little anecdotes and loved the photos. I admit I teared up in a few spots. I certainly enjoyed the book, and will probably pass it on to my nieces. Just make sure you’re ordering the right version!

Vicki once again writes a great and compelling book, I will not spoil this for anyone but you must read all the way to the end, which can be hard for cat lovers. Dewey's life as told by her was mesmerizing as well as her insights into a small town and it's library and how a library works and her dreams and how she made them real for it.In this second book we get additional accounts of different cats and people along with a few more things about Dewey, especially after his death, it's not always feel-good and has some sorrow, so be prepared for that but it's worth all that to get to the end.

A very popular, cute, heartwarming story of love & compassion about a kitten who was found abandoned in the library Return Box overnight, but was rescued, nursed back to health & took up residence in the local library as its new home. This particular version is written on a child’s level & easy to read. My 9 yr old granddaughter LOVES this book & we have always checked it out of our library whenever she comes to visit if it is available at the time but when I saw this great deal on Amazon, I couldn’t help but grab it. I bought a “used” copy of the book for the best price but it is in very excellent condition. This particular version has become a “hard to find” book at a reasonable price but Amazon had the source. Now my granddaughter has her own copy to read when she is visiting & someday it will be hers to keep ...& be one of her memories of good times at Grandad & Nana’s house.

If you've ever owned a cat, you will just eat up every word, every adventure, every cuddle in this book. If you "dont know cats" this will take you into their world; it will show you the depth of their intelligence and capacity to love and care. The tale of the small almost-frozen cat being rescued by the library staff and becoming a fixture in the museum is well told. You can just see the cat chasing things, or being chased, and how it interacts with people -- particularly with grumps and physically disabled. The few sections about the health of the author (librarian) did not interest me, and I could have done without. I could re-read this book every few years and still giggle, swoon, or cry. It must be one of the top "gift books" published, as you will want to share it, and bring joy to others' lives.

The namesake of the story, Dewey, will win your heart just as he did for people in the town of Spencer, Iowa and across the world. I very much enjoyed the stories of how he won over the hearts of many who were hardened to life and affection. The author goes into great detail to describe Dewey's hometown and its history, which is valuable at times because it shows the effect this little cat had in helping to preserve it.The only complaint I have is with the awkward transitions between Dewey's story and the author's life. There are several chapters that have nothing to do with Dewey's story and are completely about the author's past; and there is no smooth transitioning between the two. It's almost like, "Enough about the cat, let's talk about me now." Not to say that it wasn't an interesting read, it was just...awkward. I understand tying two separate timeframes together to weave one story together, but this book did not succeed in that. She could have correlated a struggle of Dewey's to a struggle of hers, but there was none of that. The story of Dewey would rock along happily, only to be interrupted by two chapters of what its like to be a single mom. It's kind of like this review; everything's adorable, now let me rant about molding two stories into one.Now, in earnest, I got what I expected from the story, which was a touching tale about an adorable cat. I was excited to see how the little guy became famous and how his story culminated in this book. If you are a cat lover, Dewey is worth the read.

Having heard about Dewey, the library cat, I was curious. This book, not the original, is both a sequel in that it follows other cats similar to Dewey insofar as they changed their humans' lives; however, it also is something of an autobiography of Vicki Myron, in that she weaves other details of Dewey's and her own life into the stories she tells of these other cats.Cat lovers will enjoy these stories and see their own special animals in the events that are covered. What I enjoyed most was the creative names Vicki gives her special "library" cats, and the uplifting manner in which the book moves from the difficulties all experienced, often as kittens, before being adopted by--or adopting--the humans who came to be so much a part of their lives.

This is the second time I have read Dewey,s story.I love this book. I love the way it has been written. I love Dewey even though I only met him in the book.I had a cat that l loved with all my heart ,actually a few and dogs.All special all different for us it was an orange and white cat his name was SHILO ,named after the Neil Diamond song. He filled our lives with LOVE he honoured the song. My children thought the song was for our cat, not the other way around, the years do not dim the LOVE. Thank you Vicki for sharing Dewey with us. Also another great book by Dr Claud Anderson. The guy is a true visionary and is so on point with his analysis and research. I have recommended all of my close friends to read either Powernomics or A Black History Reader. I will probably purchase a few for them. That is how much I believe in these books.

Awesome and easy read

Great book by Dr. Claud Anderson. This man has a wealth of knowledge and information. This book is one of three of his books I now have. So much information. I highly recommend this book and "Black Labor White Wealth" and " Dirty Little Secrets about Black History, Heroes and Other Troublemakers" to anyone who wants an in depth understanding of what has happened, and is happening in the black community in America and white America and what needs to be done to fix it these injustices.

Why don't they teach this history in our schools?

Very informative would recommend this to everyone. Anyone who calls themselves American must read
